Tattoo FAQs: Things You Need to Know Before Booking With Syluss in Exeter

Do you take walk-ins?

Not usually unless Syluss has an occasion with free space here and there. Ninety-nine per cent of all tattoos are done by appointment only. This ensures every piece gets the time, focus, and custom attention it deserves. Consultations are free and recommended for anyone considering a new tattoo.

You can schedule yours easily via the booking page.

How much does a tattoo cost?

Pricing depends on the size, style, level of detail, and how long it takes to complete. Half-day and full-day sessions are available for larger pieces or ongoing work. Syluss also does piece prices for smaller ideas. Get in touch with what it is you’re after, and Syluss will be able to help with costings.

If you have an idea in mind, a consultation is the best way to get a clear quote and explore your options.

Do you offer free consultations?

Yes. Every tattoo begins with a one-on-one consultation, free of charge. These are held at Wolf Ink Studio on Queen Street, Exeter, and are a great opportunity to discuss your ideas, placement, sizing and design direction.

How should I prepare for my tattoo?

  • Get a good night’s sleep

  • Eat a solid meal beforehand

  • Stay hydrated

  • Avoid alcohol, aspirin, and sun exposure the day before

  • Wear comfortable clothes that allow easy access to the tattoo area

  • For longer sessions, bring snacks and entertainment (like music or a podcast). You can see a more detailed explanation of how to prepare for a new tattoo on Syluss’ other blog post. How to Prepare for Your First Tattoo: A Guide from Syluss

What styles do you specialise in?

  • Syluss focuses on bold, custom tattooing with a strong illustrative and gothic edge. You’ll also see elements of blackwork, fine detail, and narrative design throughout the portfolio. Every piece is drawn specifically for the individual. Syluss also has a variety of custom flash to choose from. Just ask or pop into the studio if you’d like to see.

Can you rework or cover up old tattoos?

Yes. Syluss has years of experience reworking faded or poorly executed tattoos and designing meaningful cover-ups that give old pieces new life. Bring reference photos or ideas to your consultation if this is something you're considering.

Where is the studio located?

Syluss works from Wolf Ink Studio, located at:

How to Prepare for Your First Tattoo: A Guide from Syluss

Getting your first tattoo is exciting, but also a little nerve-wracking. Whether you’ve dreamed about it for years or just recently decided, proper preparation can make the whole experience smoother and more enjoyable.

Here’s my guide to help you get ready for your first tattoo, so you can walk into the studio feeling confident and ready.

1. Do Your Research

Find a tattoo artist whose style you love and who makes you feel comfortable. Review portfolios and reviews, and don’t hesitate to ask questions before booking.

2. Book a Consultation

Most professional artists, including me, offer free consultations. This is your chance to talk about your idea, get some guidance on size and placement, and ask about the process.

3. Take Care of Your Skin

Healthy skin tattoos better. In the week leading up to your appointment, keep your skin moisturised, avoid sunburn, and stay hydrated.

4. Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Being well-rested helps your body handle the tattooing process and recover faster.

5. Eat Before Your Appointment

Eat a decent meal beforehand. Tattooing can lower your blood sugar, so eating helps keep your energy up and prevents feeling faint. Feel free to bring lunch or snacks for your appointment.

6. Dress Comfortably

Wear clothes that give easy access to the area you’re getting tattooed. Loose, comfortable clothing is best.

7. Avoid Alcohol and Drugs

These can thin your blood and increase bleeding, making the tattooing process harder and possibly affecting healing.

8. Bring Something to Keep You Calm

Whether it’s music or a distraction like a book or phone, having something to help you relax can make a big difference. We have a selection of movies at Wolf Ink to help keep you distracted. Front row seat at my station. :D

9. Follow Aftercare Instructions

Once your tattoo is complete, following proper aftercare is key to how it heals and looks in the long run. I always provide detailed aftercare advice during your appointment.
